Organic Farmers
I feel blessed to have been able to help grow food on organic farms (and document with photos) on five continents. Many of these images are from my experiences "WWOOFing" around the world. (WWOOF=World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms).
Organic agriculture is healthier for humanity and our planet's environment, not to mention more nutritious and delicious. Proper organic methods regenerate the health of the soil, ecosystems and people. Prior to the era of "better living through chemistry" of the 20th century, all plant cultivation was "organic agriculture" and some production techniques - like composting and crop rotation - are thousands of years old. Organic agriculture does not poison soil, groundwater and our bodies with the fungicides, herbicides and pesticides that are used in "conventional agriculture." These chemicals can cause cancer in farm workers, affect irreparable harm to earth and water and their residues remain on the food we eat. Choosing to purchase organic foods supports organic farmers and helps mitigate toxic, poison-laden conventional agriculture. As they say, Vote with Your Fork, to support ourselves and our planet. And let's acknowledge that we all rely on farmers every day in order to eat.
